Dating from the 16th century, this restaurant in a historic building brews its own beer and proffers hearty Swiss fare—the old classics of cheese fondue and veal schnitzel—as well as the in-house specialty of beef steak with Provence herbs and chips. The biggest draw though is the entertainment: from April to October there are Swiss folklore shows featuring Alphorns, cowbells, flag-waving, and yodeling. Part of Kultur Kulinarik Vitznau’s Neuro Campus, this concert venue has walls like gold ingots, a ceiling of LED stars depicting the constellation above Vitznau on Swiss National Day, and is entirely underground, in the bowels of a contemporary construction. It’s ultra-high-tech, with features such as wall panel reflectors, invisible sound lines, and induction loops for people with hearing impairments, to ensure crystal sharp acoustics. Classical concerts take place throughout the year, but staff are happy to give private tours when asked.
