Orientation

For a city that sees so much political, legal, and diplomatic action, The Hague can seem surprisingly quiet and a pleasure to those who want to escape the crowds. It's a flat compact city, and most of the sights in the town center are within a 15-minute walk from either of the city's train stations. Tram Nos. 1 and 16 cover many of the sights in town; Tram No. 16 will also get you to the outlying Statenkwartier museums. Tram No. 9 goes to Madurodam. For information on specific lines, ask at the HTM offices in The Hague's central train station. For information on public transport (trains, buses, trams, and ferries), call the national information line (0900/9292).
