Scopello

City
ABOUT

Located on the craggy coast of the Golfo di Castellammare and originally inhabited by workers of the nearby tonnara, or tuna fishery, the village of Scopello has been tidied up and endowed with a sprinkling of fashionable restaurants and hotels, attracting day-trippers aplenty. Many are here primarily to have a coffee and a wander through the quaint lanes before or after taking a selfie against the background of the highly photogenic fishery, with its spires of rock topped by ruined structures. Others are drawn to the golden-sand beaches in the vicinity or the Zingaro nature reserve, whose southern entrance lies just beyond the tonnara. Scopello is at its best, though, after the crowds have departed, and you might consider an overnight stay or at the very least a meal in one of its chic and lively restaurants. Avoid weekends and the peak summer period to enjoy a more laid-back visit.
