As the biggest theater in Italy, Teatro Massimo is truly larger than life. Concerts and operas are presented throughout the year, though in summer concerts are usually held outdoors. An opera at the Massimo is an unforgettable Sicilian experience.

Palermo's tradition of puppet theater holds an appeal for children and adults alike, and street artists often perform outside the Teatro Massimo in summer. One of the most celebrated examples of the folk tradition is performed by the Figli d'Arte Cuticchio association, which hosts classic puppet shows from September to June.

Teatro Nazarena puts on an evening of entertaining duets and arias from Italian opera on most nights during the summer. A glass of prosecco is included in the ticket price.

The Teatro Greco and the Palazzo dei Congressi, near the entrance to the theater, are the main venues for the summer festival dubbed TaoArte, held each year between June and August. Performances encompass classical music, ballet, and theater.

The theater in Caltanissetta has a rich history, dating back to 1870 when construction began on the site of a former 14th-century church. Intended to be named after Princess Sofia, its dedication shifted to Princess Margherita due to the unification of Italy. The theater opened in 1875 with a performance of Verdi's Macbeth, predating several other more famous Sicilian theaters. Despite periods of success and private management, the theater faced challenges throughout the 20th century, including a decline in the 1930s and an extended closure for renovations starting in the 1970s. Now reopened, it hosts many cultural events, from modern concerts to classic operas.
