Klosterhof
FODOR’S EXPERT REVIEW
This family-run resort hotel northwest of Berchtesgaden—and southwest of Salzburg—really is the ultimate Alpine hideaway, a refuge of relaxation surrounded by lush green meadows and craggy mountain peaks. For unwinding, the highlight here is the award-winning Artemacur Spa, which includes a large indoor pool, a heated outdoor pool, a fitness and yoga studio, several treatment rooms, and a selection of saunas. There's also a connected health center offering holistic wellbeing programs, run by the resort's co-owner Dr. Andreas Färber. All hotel stays are half-board, which means an exceptional breakfast buffet and a four-course gourmet dinner are included as standard; those who stay in the hotel during the day can also enjoy a light lunch buffet and selection of afternoon cakes. The most luxurious rooms and suites, including the unique, two-level spa loft with whirlpool bath and private sauna, can be found in the newer part of the hotel complex—but save time for a stroll around the original, 500-year-old Augustinian monastery that forms the heart of Klosterhof. You can also book a private dining experience in the Klosterhof-Stuben to really soak up the local history.
