Chêne Bleu

Fodor's choice

This extraordinary domaine benefits from an ideal setting in the Mont Ventoux UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, with sweeping views of the Rhône Valley, the Dentelles de Montmirail, Mont Ventoux itself, and the medieval village of Crestet. The overarching principle here is to respect the land while benefiting from its incline and altitude to make handcrafted, fully organic wines of the highest quality. Comprehensive tours of the wine-making facilities and the estate include a tasting and a visit to the boutique where you can buy locally made gift items as well as wine.

Between mid-April and the end of October the domaine also serves lunches featuring all-organic dishes created by the in-house chef using ingredients from the kitchen gardens, charcuterie and cheese plates from local artisans, and, bien sûr, a glass or two of estate wines. Customized tastings can be arranged upon request, and the estate also has a separate house where up to 14 people can stay for a week in total luxury, including a private chef, a valet, and every imaginable comfort. Prices are through the roof, but the experience is assuredly one-of-a-kind.

Vinothèque

Fodor's choice

Put yourself in the hands of an expert under the arched ceilings of this state-of-the-art tasting room—part of the Vinadéa–Maison des Vins—set in an ancient wine cave. Sample five of the region's majestic reds or dazzling whites side by side (€25 for regular tasting, €40 for prestige bottles), or custom-design your own flight from the 250 wines offered by the 150 estates represented here. All of the wines can be purchased at the Vinadéa boutique, just above the Vinothèque.

Château de Mille

The passionate owners of this estate, which is set on more than 60 acres of vineyards and features a restored medieval chateau—once a summer residence of the Avignon popes—trace its winemaking history back to the Romans. The emphasis here is on sustainability and biodiversity, and the estate became fully biodynamic in 2025. It's a shift that’s resulted in exceptional, prize-winning reds, whites, and rosés. Stop in for a tasting (free for up to three wines or €5 for the range) and a walk on the beautiful grounds. You can also stay the night in one of two elegant, fully-equipped stone farmhouses, complete with gardens and a pool. The estate, which is 8 km (5 miles) northeast of Bonnieux en route to Apt, also hosts concerts and offers fun, wine-related activities.

Domaine Terres de Sable

Once prolific here, many Camargue vineyards succumbed to the saline soils. Around Aigues-Morte, home of the Sable de Camargue appellation, you can taste gris-de-gris and granache-gris rosé wines made from red grapes pressed to keep a faint blush without maceration of the skins. Domaine Terres de Sable’s vineyards might date from 1800, but the estate has a modern cellar where you can taste (€15) its all-organic wines. Make reservations online.

Mas des Infermières

Wine and cinema come together in a captivating way at this state-of-the-art estate owned by the British film director Ridley Scott and located in Oppède, just 5 km (3 miles) northwest of Ménerbes. Here, Scott and his team of experts make award-winning wines without the use of harmful chemicals and with respect for the region's biodiversity, especially the bees, the winery’s symbol. Visitors are welcomed for impromptu tastings and organized tours. On the one-hour Classic Tour (€20), you’ll taste four wines. As part of the 90-minute Superior Tour (€50), flights of private-selection wines are served in a VIP tasting room amid costumes, props, and posters from Scott’s iconic films. An on-site boutique sells wines and other local specialties, and the winery also rents several luxury villas and a farmhouse (three-night minimum stay).
