Fodor's Review

The glass-fronted Carrée d'Art (directly opposite the Maison Carrée) was designed by British architect Sir Norman Foster as its neighbor's stark contemporary mirror. It literally reflects the Maison Carrée's creamy symmetry and figuratively answers it with a featherlight deconstructed colonnade. Homages aside, it looks like an airport terminal. It contains a library, archives, and the Musée d'Art Contemporain (Contemporary Art Museum). The permanent collection falls into three categories: French painting and sculpture; English, American, and German works; and Mediterranean styles—all dating from 1960 onward. There are often temporary exhibits of new work, too. But as lovely as the museum is, the facade has suffered traffic pollution and could do with a bit of a cleanup.
