17 Best Places to Shop in Marseille, Provence

Background Illustration for Shopping

Although you'll want to stock up on savon (soap) de Marseille, the city has lots more to offer in the way of shopping. Offbeat designer clothing, vintage finds, and hip accessories made in Marseille abound around Cours Julien. Nearer the Vieux Port, rues Grignan, Paradis, and Saint form a high-end shopping rectangle, where pricey French designers comingle with chic fashion chains (like Marseille-based Sugar) and edgy-elegant concept stores, like Marianne Cat, where you can also relax over a glass of wine or a cup of tea.

Chez Laurette

Fodor's Choice

Ex-fashion designer Laure Traverso (Marc Jacobs, Paul & Joe) escaped the Paris treadmill to open her own wildly creative concept store that spotlights all things French that are also sustainable, ethical, design-conscious, and just plain cool. Discoveries abound: look for chic emerging fashion labels, beautiful leather and straw bags, shoes, belts, avant-garde jewelry, lingerie, handmade home furnishings, and organic cosmetics made in Provence. There's even a grocery corner with local microbrews, chocolates, and teas.
