Windermere Hotel

142–144 Warwick Way, London, SW1V 4JE, England

A comfortable mid-level hotel in Pimlico, the Windermere Hotel attracts guests who value the personal touch that’s evident throughout this family-run property. Well located for Buckingham Palace, Westminster and Chelsea, its place in the heart of Pimlico is one of its main draws. Inhabiting an elegant mid 19th century mansion block, the hotel has historic appeal, its narrow corridors and Victorian features part of the charm.

YOU SHOULD KNOW A relatively quiet neighbourhood, Pimlico is a good place for a family to be based but lacks the excitement, buzz, and renown of other areas nearby.

Sticking with traditional design, rooms at the Windermere are comfortable and cozy, if a little on the small side. Nobody is going to get overly excited about the décor but there’s something to be said for a room that immediately makes you feel at home. All rooms come with free Wi-Fi.

The hotel has a range of room options, including family rooms ideal for guests with children.

Clean and sleek, the en suite bathrooms adopt a more contemporary design than the rooms. Each comes with standalone shower.

Part lobby, part living room, the entry here is a comfortable place to linger when checking in or waiting to embark on excursions away from the hotel.

The Windermere Brasserie serves a traditional menu—think steak and chips and club sandwiches—from Monday through Saturday in its modest, tiled dining room. The cooked or continental breakfast is complimentary for guests.

Getting Around

The hotel’s residential location makes it a good place to enjoy a wander around the terraced streets. Sights like Buckingham Palace and Battersea Park are a gentle 20-minute walk away so if exploring further afield, take the Tube from Victoria Station. The Pimlico location is removed from the madness of museum and shopping crowds while remaining close enough to South Kensington, Sloane Square and Knightsbridge to be convenient.

Both restaurant and bar, The Botanist (12-minute walk) is a favorite with the Chelsea crowd, serving good burgers and an excellent range of seafood. Pair culture and cuisine at the Royal Court Bar & Kitchen (13-minute walk).

Bright and airy with a vaguely Scandi style, No. 11 Pimlico Road (5-minute walk) is good for cocktails surrounded by an upmarket clientele who have all the time in the world to sit back sipping on long drinks. An authentic London alternative, the St. George’s Tavern (5-minute walk) is a classic Victorian boozer with plenty of original features.

For a friendly, comfortable hotel that forgoes the frills in favor of simple elements done well, the Windermere is a good choice. Family-run, service comes with a smile and while the restaurant and rooms aren’t the most extravagant, the area is near to a host of exciting options to explore.
