11 Best Hotels in Turks and Caicos Islands

Background Illustration for Hotels

The Turks and Caicos can be an expensive destination. Most hotels on Providenciales are pricey, but there are some moderately priced options; most accommodations are condo-style, and not all resorts are family-friendly. You'll find a sprinkling of upscale properties on the outer islands—including the famous Parrot Cay—but the majority of places are smaller inns and private self-contained villas. What you give up in luxury, however, you gain back tenfold in island charm. Though the smaller islands are relatively isolated, their quiet ambience and "beauty by nature" is what makes them so attractive.

Resorts: Most of the resorts on Provo are upscale; most are condo-style, giving the option of preparing some meals in or having a private chef prepare something extra special for you. There are two all-inclusive resorts on Provo—Club Med and Beaches. A few resorts are closed for a short period during the fall for maintenance. Be sure to double check if your heart is set on a particular property.

Small Inns: Most of the more modest inns with fewer amenities are on the outlying islands, with a few such options on Provo. Some are devoted to diving.

Villas and Condos: Villas and condos are plentiful, particularly on Provo, and usually represent good value for families. However, there are also larger villas that are fully staffed for those looking for the ultimate in pampering or wish a more exclusively private venue for their special event. Many of the more popular properties book up to two years in advance, so you need to plan ahead to get what suits you best.

Dragon Cay Resort

At this property, dramatic cliffs skirt one of the most beautiful beaches in the Turks and Caicos, while turquoise-roofed cottages dot the hillside, all with outstanding views of the coastline and reef beyond. All accommodations have screened-in porches and careful positioning to ensure that all have unobstructed views out to sea and take advantage of ocean breezes. Although it's secluded, it doesn't lack amenities. The concierge can arrange everything, including groceries, excursions to East Caicos and Joe Grants Cay, kayaks, snorkeling trips, and bonefishing. In the restaurant, floor-to-ceiling windows give the most amazing views—perhaps the best of all of the islands. Be sure to plan well in advance, as the resort books up fast.

Hollywood Beach Suites

$$$ | Hollywood Beach Dr., Whitby, TKCA 1ZZ, Turks and Caicos Islands Fodor's Choice

With 7 miles (11 km) of secluded beach and few others to share it with, this property with four upscale and tastefully furnished three-bedroom units is utterly simple and relaxing—each has a master bedroom with king-size bed; an open-concept kitchen, living room, and dining room; and a large screened-in sunroom with dining and lounging possibilities. There's no cable, but there are TVs. Guests also have two bikes and a pay-as-you-go phone dedicated to each unit, plus access to kayaks, snorkeling equipment, and an outdoor commercial-grade Weber grill. This resort offers modern luxury with upscale furnishings, only a 10-minute walk from the far eastern end of Grace Bay. With resort beach chairs and umbrellas set up on a secluded beachfront, it’s a bargain at a fraction of the price compared with staying in the hub. The rooms at the Atrium feature travertine tiles, granite countertops in the well-appointed kitchens, and flat-screen TVs. The spacious accommodations include pullout sleeper sofas, a convenience for those traveling together. The gorgeous pool, complete with shallow wading areas, bridges, and kids' toys, make it a difficult choice for families to leave the property to head to the beach—although the hotel offers a funny little extended golf cart tram to get folks to and from the oceanside without breaking a sweat. In addition, there's a fitness facility on-site. Club Med Turkoise

$$$ | Grace Bay Rd., Grace Bay, TKCA 1ZZ, Turks and Caicos Islands

In contrast to the other, more tranquil Grace Bay resorts, this property has a vibrant party atmosphere with nightly entertainment and even a flying trapeze—it caters to fun-loving singles and couples, as it has a no-child policy. That said, the resort attracts a diverse crowd, including longtime Club Med aficionados who fly in from North America and Europe for the “club” that started it all; water sports has always been the draw in what was the area's first major resort, but many now come to “join the circus." The resort had a major much needed overhaul recently. Standard Club rooms in the village are basic, but the Deluxe rooms offer a slightly nicer decor and in-room amenities; both are set in small, colorful bungalows dotted close to the widest stretch of Grace Bay Beach. Note that individuals wishing to join in on the fun may do so through a day pass or a dinner pass, which takes in all evening entertainment, for $89 each, or you can spend all day and night there (no room included) for $149 and enjoy all the food, drink, and amenities.

Pros

  • All-inclusive
  • One of the best bargains to be found on one of the best beaches in the world
  • Adults only

Cons

  • Even with some renovations, the rooms are tiny, basic, and dormlike
  • Food is just so-so
  • Summer camp atmosphere

Neptune Villas

$$$ | Chalk Sound Rd., Chalk Sound, Turks and Caicos Islands

Although not on the beach, this wonderful complex of villas is the only resort-style accommodation on the magical waters of Chalk Sound National Park, with nearby Sapodilla and Taylor Bays. Neptune Villas consists of two-bedroom, two-bath vaulted-ceiling cottages with either Chalk Sound or garden views. The owners have taken this older property that once consisted of long-term rentals and lovingly refurbished it into luxurious accommodations featuring full glass and stainless kitchens, high-end furnishings including poster beds, rich wood cabinetry, and marble bathrooms—one with shower and the other with tub. Each unit has three private balconies to take in a variety of views; some have a fourth with a hammock to while away a lazy afternoon. Jalousie windows allow fresh ocean breezes through to cool, and there are fans and AC as alternatives. The resort also offers a superb restaurant, Las Brisas, overlooking the sound, and a sunset pontoon boat excursion to get you out on the water. Northwest Point Resort

$$$ | 1 Davie Bight Rd., Northwest Point, Turks and Caicos Islands

Miles from nowhere, this resort should be your destination if you need complete solitude. In fact, it is so isolated that the paved road ends before you reach the front gates (it continues as packed sand). The Spanish-style resort itself is quite nice, with white walls and arches, red-tile roofs, and lovely landscaping. Rooms are spacious, with full kitchens and large balconies, many with amazing ocean views. Because it's condo-style, all units are individually owned and decorated. The pool is centrally located—oceanside—and there's even a hot tub. The beach here is natural and wild, but the resort staff rakes it daily. Although this is not Grace Bay, it is the westernmost extension of Provo’s beautiful north shore. Its long, uninterrupted stretch of sand goes for miles, with a wonderful little grassy vehicle track that parallels the shoreline, both great for nature walks. You definitely need a car if you stay here; there is no restaurant, and the nearest grocery store is a 20-minute drive away. You are truly totally isolated, with no services for miles and miles.

Pros

  • Good rate for what you get
  • Large pool and hot tub
  • Perfect for those wishing total solitude

Cons

  • Water at beach access has turtle grass
  • 3-night minimum stay during peak season
  • Far from everything

Ocean Club West

$$$ | Grace Bay Rd., Grace Bay, Turks and Caicos Islands

Its central location and large, affordable, comfortable rooms make this resort popular with vacationers. Regular shuttles run along the 1/2-mile (1-km) stretch of Grace Bay Beach between two artfully landscaped sister properties, Ocean Club (popularly known as Ocean Club "East") and Ocean Club West, from 6 am to 10:30 pm. Ocean Club West has a larger pool than Ocean Club, as well as a swim-up bar. Management and service are superb. Newer rooms than its sister property make this a more upgraded choice.

  • Central location eases walking to shops and restaurants

Cons

  • Condo style means units vary in terms of decor
  • Higher price point than Ocean Club
