Background Illustration for Shopping

The island's best-known products are wood carvings, straw mats, clay pottery, and clothing and household articles made from batik and silk-screened fabrics that are designed and produced in island workshops. You can also take home straw hats and baskets and locally grown cocoa, coffee, spices, sauces, and flavorings.

Baywalk Mall

With more than 45 stores and a half-dozen restaurants, this two-level complex boasts boutiques, banks, a beauty salon, jewelry and souvenir stores, a large supermarket (great for snacks, picnic items, or a bottle of wine), and the island's only (so far) casino.

Cacoa Sainte Lucie

As locally made souvenirs go, they don't get much sweeter than a box of gorgeous truffles from this artisan chocolate maker in rural Canaries. Led by owner-pastry chef Maria Jackson, the team creates small-batch chocolates on-site using cocoa from local farms. Get a glimpse of the process through the viewing windows, alongside display cases filled with their signature pink sea salt caramels, mango-basil bonbons, and other tempting confections. They also offer chocolate "sensory" tastings (US$20 per person); truffle-making classes (US$50 per person), and farm excursions.
