4 Best Hotels in St. Eustatius

Background Illustration for Hotels

Statia has several basic rental apartments, and pleasant, reasonably priced homestay accomodations available as alternatives to hotel rooms. Don't expect much beyond cable TV, a bathroom, and a kitchenette. Check with the tourist office for options and reservations. The only luxury option is the four-villa Knippenga Estate complex in which rooms can be rented individually.

Knippenga Estate Villas

$$$$ | Knippenga Ave., St. Eustatius Fodor's Choice

Statia's first high-end lodging—situated north of the Quill near the entrance to the botanical garden—has drool-worthy villas that you can rent in their entirety and a pair of modern one-bedroom apartments. The property is a good 15-minute drive from the airport and historic Oranjestad along a rocky track, but the water views and natural serenity make the trek worth it—especially if you really want to "get away." The on-site Whale Tails Restaurant serves dinner Wednesday through Sunday and lunch on weekends; upstairs, the multi-level, Spanish-motif Cuba Café serves tapas, light meals, and cocktails with a view.

Pros

  • Architecturally breathtaking
  • Modern luxury
  • Total retreat

Cons

  • Bumpy roads
  • Remote location
  • Car essential
