In Santo Domingo, several hotels have casinos, including the Catalonia Santo Domingo (formerly the Hilton Santo Domingo), which houses the Casino Presidente with the latest slots and tables. There’s also Occidental El Embajador Hotel and Casino; Barcelo Hotel & Casino (which although no longer in vogue, has a piano bar and nightclub, too); Diamante Casino (adjacent to the Sheraton Santo Domingo); and Renaissance Santo Domingo Jaragua Hotel & Casino, which reopened in 2015 and has all been contemporized.
This avant-garde wine bar and wine store was created by the major wine distributor El Catador. Cushy leather armchairs and hardwood floors help create a clubby atmosphere. If you want to eat, there's a good menu of tapas. You will want to buy one of the 500 bottles of wine from around the wine-making world. Generally there are a dozen wines for tasting, but there are no samplings during the busy Christmas holidays.
