East End
Even urban areas just east of sprawling Willemstad's core can be considered part of the island's east end. Adjacent to the downtown area is the Bapor Kibra district, which got its name (it literally means "broken ship") owing to a shipwreck just off its shore. Today, it's home to the Sea Aquarium and the famous Mambo Beach. Beyond it are Jan Thiel—where a man-made beach and a marina attract partiers and yachties—Spanish Waters, and the self-contained Santa Barbara community.
In more rural areas farther east, you'll find interesting attractions such as the Ostrich Farm, Serena’s Art Factory—home of the Chichi, Curaçao’s most iconic souvenir—and secluded St. Joris Bay, where the island's best kiteboarders practice. Roads are rougher and amenities are fewer out this way, so bring water and snacks when exploring.
