2 Best Hotels in Curaçao

Background Illustration for Hotels

Simple beachside relaxation, culture and history, snorkel and dive-centered, adult-only romantic solitude, or fun family-friendly activity spots: On Curaçao you’ll find it all, including small boutique-style stays and all-inclusive full-service complexes. You'll generally find that hotels at all price levels provide friendly, prompt, detail-oriented service and clean, well-maintained accommodations, and English is spoken by staff just about everywhere. Many of the large-scale resorts east and west of Willemstad proper have lovely beaches and provide a free shuttle to the city, 5 to 10 minutes away, but there are also fine hotels right in the city center should you want to be in the heart of the action. There are also resorts in their own self-maintained neighborhoods just out of town in Santa Barbara and Jan Thiel.

Villas and Rentals. Villa and bungalow rentals are especially popular with divers and European visitors and are generally good options for large groups or longer stays. Coral Estates (www.coralestatevillas.com) has gorgeous villa homes to rent. The Curaçao Tourist Board (www.curacao.com) has a complete list of rental apartments, villas, and bungalows on its website.

THE BEST HOTEL IN CURAÇAO

Renaissance Windcreek Curaçao Resort

$$ | Pater Euwensweg, Willemstad, Curaçao
Fodor's Choice

FODOR’S EXPERT REVIEW

The colorful four gabled buildings of this downtown Willemstad resort—in the historic Rif Fort amid an entertainment complex of high-end shops, restaurants, cinemas, and the large modern Carnival Casino—are painted in colors that mirror those of Punda across the harbor. Many rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows affording great harbor and oceans views, and some boast gorgeous bathrooms with whirlpool tubs. Lots of hotels have infinity pools, but the Renaissance has gone one step further: its second-floor, saltwater, manmade "infinity beach," complete with a bar, palm trees, and white-sand, allowing the whole pool area to blend visually with the real ocean beyond.

Pros

  • Every amenity imaginable on-site
  • Walking distance to all the attractions of both Otrobanda and Punda
  • Exceptionally helpful staff

Cons

  • Rif Fort area can get overcrowded with visitors
  • Better suited to couples and business travelers than families
  • Few rooms have full balconies

THE BEST HOTEL IN CURAÇAO

Sandals Royal Curaçao

$$$$ | Santa Barbara Plantation, Porta Blanku Nieuwpoort, Curaçao
Fodor's Choice

FODOR’S EXPERT REVIEW

The grand old colonial-style estate of the historic Santa Barbara Plantation on Spanish Waters has been transformed into an incarnation of an adults-only, couples-focused Sandals resort. Though little is recognizable of the old property---save for the backdrop of the towering Table Mountain (Tafelberg) and the famous Old Quarry Golf Course right next door---it’s a whole new world with 8 restaurants, 13 bars, and a cute alfresco food truck court. There are 24 room categories to choose from, but two of them are firsts here: the super luxe Kurason Island Suites and the Awa Seaside Bungalows, both of which come with complimentary Mini Coopers to explore the island and their own butlers. Another first is the impressive split-level infinity pool spilling on to the sea. Round-trip transfers from the airport are complimentary. There is a seven-night minimum stay.

Pros

  • Complimentary bikes to explore the sprawling property
  • Free snorkel trips in clear waters chock full of colorful marine life
  • Lots of romantic escapes and nooks for couples

Cons

  • Far from the most popular island attractions
  • Swimmable part of the beach is small
  • Main pools can be very crowded and loud
