3 Best Hotels in Dockyard and The Western Parishes, Bermuda

Background Illustration for Hotels

The western tip of the island has a lot going for it, having been energized with an increase in bars, restaurants, and stores. The Royal Naval Dockyard combines the old with the new; it’s steeped in history and also plays home to two cruise-ship terminals. In the summer this place is packed with cruise-ship passengers. This is a nice spot, just not for peace and quiet. Rentals are a common form of accommodation here.

Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa

$$$$ | 30 King's Point Rd., Somerset, MA 02, Bermuda Fodor's Choice

No other Bermuda resort uses its privileged setting better—the cottage colony's 30 acres on a peninsula near the western end of the island create a sense of meandering expansiveness. Cambridge Beaches has a coat of arms that reads Prima et Optima, or "First and Best." The First? Yes—it's the island's oldest cottage colony, and it leans into this distinction with simple retro styling. The Best? Well, if you want a pervasive sense of tranquility and relaxed refinement, then that's a fact, too. Many large properties on the island are centered on one main beach, but Cambridge has four, including beautiful Long Bay Beach and tiny Turtle Cove (backed by a chic infinity pool). The varying sizes, styles, and locations of the cottages and rooms make for a wide range of prices. Less expensive rooms open onto lawns and gardens, but overlook the same wide ocean. Dine poolside at Pastel, or under the stars at Breezes (reservation required). Cambridge also offers the Ocean Spa, one of the very best in Bermuda.

Pros

  • Private and refined, with excellent spa
  • Wide range of room and cottage options
  • Beautiful grounds and beaches

Cons

  • Far removed from rest of island
  • Grounds not accessible for elderly or disabled
  • Older facilities could use modernizing
