Fodor's Expert Review Newstead Belmont Hills

27 Harbour Rd., Paget, PG 02, Bermuda See on Map

This hotel, linked to a private golf course, is the place to be seen with some of the sleekest rooms in Bermuda and a gorgeous infinity pool right on the edge of the harbor. It opened in spring 2008, and has the most contemporary design aesthetic on the island. Choose from a stylish tapas bar or an award-winning French restaurant, and enjoy the upscale vibe as you sip exotic cocktails under the stars.

The private water taxi, which runs seasonally, is a convenient way to zip across the harbor to downtown Hamilton.

bathroom

Superior decor and amenities make for luxurious bathing, especially in the suites, which boast multiple bathrooms and feature Jacuzzi tubs and large walk-in glass showers.

lobby

Enclosed in glass, the reception area is daring and downright sexy, especially during the day when you can see straight out to the harbor. The minimalistic design is carried throughout the property and perfectly accentuates the idyllic views and island locale.

pool

Sleek and minimal, with an adjoining Jacuzzi and expansive sundeck. Observed from the upper terrace, the circular infinity pool appears to flow right into Hamilton Harbour.

spa

The Asian-inspired spa and salon offer an extensive menu of services--so extensive that you could experience a new and exciting treatment every single day. Skilled technicians cater to men and women, couples, and groups. They can also arrange customized half- and full-day pampering packages.

gym

Amidst the ultra-chic decor and contemporary amenities, the older gym seems a tad out of place. Nevertheless, it gets the job done and offers outstanding views at the same time.

dining

With its posh vibe and clientele, this hotel is just the right place for the fancy French Beau Rivage restaurant. All meals are outstanding, including the Sunday brunch. If you're in the mood for something a little less hoity-toity, try a deluxe burger or sampling of tapas from the casual Sanzibar.

drinking

The ritzy pool bar opens at 11 a.m., just in time for a light lunch and a handcrafted hair of the dog. Sanzibar also serves cocktails, which are best enjoyed alfresco-style, on the breezy harbor-view terrace.

LOCATION

Getting Around

Located a stone's thrown from the hotel, Hodson's Ferry terminal offers a convenient stopping off point for boat transit to Hamilton. To avoid the wait, call a taxi; you can also take advantage of bus service along Middle Road, about a 6-minute walk away.

Restaurants

Enjoy a surf-side lunch, dinner, or afternoon snack on the relaxed open-air patio at Mickey's Beach Bistro (5-minute drive). More on the fancier side, Harbourfront Restaurant (4-minute drive), is the place to go for an intimate meal for two. Dine on the water's edge, choose from an extensive wine list, and savor award-winning seafood and sushi.

Bars

As far as spirited evenings go, there is no classier a spot than The Dock at Waterlot Inn (9-minute drive). Delightful nibbles, craft cocktails, and organic sangria, plus incredible sunsets and live music? This venue has it all. Bistro by day, tapas bar by night, Taste One Four One (5-minute drive) in Hamilton is a mecca for thirsty business professionals. The vibe is hip and excited, especially during happy hour when the outdoor patio comes alive.

WHY WE LIKE IT

This is a top-tier resort, an architectural beauty, and an amazing place to get away from it all. There's plenty to do, whether you take advantage of the complimentary round of golf, play some tennis, or just chill by pool. The only thing that's missing is a beach, but luckily Bermuda's South Shore is only 10 minutes away. The experience won't be easy on your wallet, but hey, that's price you pay for luxury.
