Background Illustration for Hotels

Beachfront resorts cater to the pampered traveler with spa treatments and infinity pools, while those closer to the center are near restaurants, shops, and historic sites. Better value can be had by staying in one of the many hotels and resorts situated among the rice fields and riverways midway between town and beach. Most provide free use of bicycles, and taxis are inexpensive.

If you plan to stay in town, opt for a hotel with a river view or one that offers daily shuttles to the beach.

Hoi An Ancient House Resort & Spa

$$$ | 377 Cua Dai, Hoi An, Vietnam

Tucked away in a tropical garden, this thin-walled hotel pays tribute to Vietnamese culture with its rice paper factory and a 200-year-old house, where fifth-generation family members still live today. The white buildings with clay-tiled roofs resemble a small village. Each building houses spacious rooms with four-poster beds draped in netting. Nice touches are the fresh flowers and fruit, and the rice pastries wrapped in banana leaves that the staff brings at turndown. Rooms include free Wi-Fi and some come with a laptop to use during your stay. Centering the property is a circular pool; Cua Dai Beach is a 10-minute drive away. Complimentary bikes and shuttle service are offered, and motorbikes can be rented next door for 150,000d per day.

Pros

  • Great breakfast
  • Local charm
  • Imaginatively renovated

Cons

  • No elevator
  • Tall bathtubs are awkward for exiting
  • Not suitable for those with mobility issues

Hoi An Beach Resort

$$$ | 01 Cua Dai St., Hoi An, Vietnam

The best feature of Hoi An's oldest beach resort is its riverside setting, and river views somewhat make up for the lack of beach (rapid coastal erosion took the last of the beach). The renovations have successfully injected style and character, with sleek lines, colorful soft furnishings, and local artwork. Bathrooms are modern and luxurious, with Western-size tubs, monsoon showers, and marble accents.

Pros

  • Some rooms have river views
  • Impeccable service
  • Lovely pool area overlooking the river

Cons

  • You have to cross a busy road to get to what's left of the beach
  • Restaurant is average
  • Expensive considering beach is not easily accessible
