Lamphun's Native Fruit

The countryside surrounding Lamphun is blanketed with orchards of lamyai, a sweet cherry-size fruit with a thin, buff-color shell. The annual lamyai festival brings the town to a halt in the first week of August with parades, exhibitions, a beauty contest, and copious quantities of lamyai wine. The lamyai-flower honey is reputed to have exceptional healing and aphrodisiacal powers. You can buy lamyai at the market stalls along the 100-yard covered wooden bridge opposite Wat Phra That Hariphunchai.
