Although accommodation is similar to that in any other major world city, Seoul offers a few unique options: Motels (aka love hotels), many of which have very nice rooms; traditional wooden Hanok Houses where guests can experience Korean culture; and Buddhist Temple Stays.

Sevilla Incheon Airport Hotel

$$ | 8 Sindosinam-ro 150beon-gil,, Incheon, 400833, South Korea Fodor's Choice

Sevilla is a simple, inexpensive business hotel with one distinguishing feature—its proximity to Incheon Airport. Central Seoul is just over an hour away from the airport, so Sevilla is useful for anyone arriving late at night or with a flight first thing in the morning. The hotel offers a free shuttle for the short 15 minute drive from the airport. For those traveling at a reasonable hour, there are better places to stay in Seoul itself.

Pros

  • Very close to Incheon Airport

Open since 2018, this stylish accommodation in the Jongno 3-ga neighborhood has \"petit\" yet clean rooms, plus facilities like an airy rooftop lounge and café. While the rooms are relatively small at approximately 10 square meters (108 square feet, the twin room), the facilities are well-maintained, and the simple, white design of the rooms gives the illusion of spaciousness. To make up for the lack of sunlight within the rooms themselves, the shared facilities include a rooftop lounge and a cafe, also open to the public. Glad Yeouido

$$ | 16 Uisadang-daero, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, South Korea

While many of the hotels in Yeouido exude a serious, business traveler vibe, this one has a youthful, trendy air about it. The rooms are snug but serviceable; there’s a prohibition-style whiskey bar, a buffet eatery, and a Japanese kappo restaurant; and it’s only a few steps away from the subway station, making it easily accessible to many areas of the city. For the price point, it ticks all the boxes and maybe a few more.

Pros

  • Rooftop terrace with skyline views
  • Across the street from the subway station
  • Cool speakeasy bar with a secret door

Cons

  • Smaller rooms than nearby hotels
  • Breakfast buffet lacks variety

Gongsimga Hanok Guesthouse

$$ | 46 Yulgok-ro 1-gil, Seoul, South Korea

Conveniently located in the Insa-dong neighborhood, Gongsimga Hanok Guesthouse is a four-bedroom accommodation in a traditional Korean setting. While each room comes with a Western-style toilet in the bathroom, there are Korean-style futons instead of conventional mattress-type beds, which should be noted for those unaccustomed to sleeping on the floor. The facilities are run by a friendly older couple and welcomes families, including children of all ages. However, for those looking for a bit more quiet, there is little insulation to block out noise among other guests. The main attraction is the sunny courtyard in the center where an American-style breakfast is served in the morning. The prices are very reasonable for a hanok stay of this stature.

Pros

  • Family friendly
  • Friendly staff
  • Sunny courtyard where American-style breakfast is served

Cons

  • Korean-style futons instead of conventional mattress-type beds
  • May be noisy
  • Less privacy than other area hotels

Hamilton Hotel

$$ | 179 Itaewon-ro, Seoul, South Korea

This reliable hotel in front of Itaewon Station is perfect for visitors looking for easy access to Western comforts and for those who prefer to be close to Itaewon nightlife. While the general hotel decor is lacking and the rooms are modest, the hotel has been neatly kept and well-maintained since its renovation in 2017. The facilities include a sauna and an outdoor pool. During the summers, the pool is a popular spot for day-drinking and parties. Note that the rooms are soundproof but the large crowds of partygoers nearby do make noise that's hard to muffle out entirely, especially if you’re visiting during nice weather and want to keep your windows open. Catching a cab between midnight and 5 am in this area is extremely difficult, so the hotel's location near nightlife options makes it ideal.

Pros

  • Prime location
  • Pool known for parties
  • Neatly kept

Cons

  • Decor is bland
  • Noise from the street can leak into rooms
  • Lacking facilities for families

Jelly Hotel

$$ | 648--7 Yeoksam--dong, Seoul, 135080, South Korea

Seoul's most famous upper-end love motel, Jelly's lavish (if a bit silly) themed rooms appeal to visitors as much young Korean couples. While the words love motel may conjure images of illicit trysts, Jelly has led the pack by turning them into hip accommodation catering not just to couples, but groups of friends and solo travelers as well. Guests can choose from a variety of rooms, such as the Persian Room, Princess Room, and, yes, even Bvlgari and Versace Rooms. The downside is that, like most of Seoul's love motels, check in is quite late: at 7 pm on weeknights and 11 pm on weekends. Located south of the river in Gangnam, the location is better suited for nightlife and shopping than sightseeing.

Pros

  • Inexpensive
  • Fun themed rooms
  • Great for couples

$$ | 16 Gukhoe-daero 76-gil, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, South Korea

The Big Apple inspiration extends to a steak house and a sports bar displaying baseball memorabilia. Despite its polished ambience, the hotel is a fairly affordable choice in what can be an expensive area.

Pros

Templestay Information Center

$$ | 56 Ujeongguk--ro, Seoul, South Korea

For a truly unique experience, the Templestay program allows visitors to experience life in a Korean Buddhist temple. While the details will vary from temple to temple, the accommodation is generally simple but pleasant; note that the bed is a Korean-style futon on the floor. Programs usually include meditation and other cultural activities such as a tea ceremony or traditional Buddhist temple cuisine cook class. The focus here is on the experience itself, not the accommodations, so be prepared for a predawn wake-up call. As temple programs vary, it is best to check out the website or visit the information center in Insadong. While the temples are spread throughout the country, there are a number in and around Seoul.

Pros
