Costa do Morte, "Coast of Death," so named because of the many ships wrecked off the coast in these rough Atlantic seas. This area was also the site of a
disastrous oil spill in 2002 with the sinking of the tanker PRESTIGE which polluted thousands of miles of Spanish and Portuguese coastline and decimated the fishing industry.
