Yukon Quest dog race and driving
Would like to follow the trail in February of Yukon Quest. Can I drive from Fairbanks to Dawson City Yukon with rental car, then down to Whitehorse? I've been to Iditarod 3x as volunteer, next year, want to see Yukon Quest. Appreciate any help.

I know some of the roads in Alaska are closed in the winter, like the road from Fairbanks to Eagle.
You might want to check the Yukon Quest website, they might have some contact information and a native Alaskan could help you.
I have friends that live outside of Eagle and have run the Quest several times.
They have a website, but just do a search for Wayne and Scarlett Hall in Eagle and you should find it.
I have their email if that doesn't work.
You could email them and they might could help you.
The Quest is considered a more gruelling race than the Iditarod.
I spent a December with the Hall's several years ago, learning to mush dogs.
It was an experience of a lifetime, one that I will cherish and never forget.
We actually ran some of the Quest trail outside of Eagle. Very exciting!
Let me know if you need any more information.
Good luck and I hope you have a great trip.

Thanks Pharlap for the info, gave me a great start. I will start digging into this some more and let you know what I find out. I'm looking forward to the race, heard it is more challenging that the Iditarod.

FYI Running North by Ann Cook is book about one family's experience moving to AK and doing the Yukon Quest. The wife/author's description of following the race via dog truck might help you with road information. One part described a caravan behind a snowplow to get to the next town when a storm hit. I expect you already know to carry supplies with you. Hope you have a wonderful adventure.
