Your ideas: AZ & UT roadtrip
Whadda' ya think? Teens & parents seek intro to Great Southwest. Moderate hikers, good paddlers. We can use different airports & 1-way car rental.
7/15 fly in - what should we visit?
7/20-7/27 Flagstaff timeshare base for Sedona, GC South Rim, Sunset Crater, Canyon de Chay?, Montezuma, Jerome & your ideas
7/28-Aug 1 - what do you think?
8/2 - fly home
Thanks!

it's gonna be hot so you only be doing morning hiking or evening hiking. that being said. one of the ends you should base in Moab utah you can hike, mountain bike, jeep off road, paddle the colorado or green rivers... tons to do.
then you might want to hit durango colorado and see some mountains, mesa verde.
or hit southern az - tucson, tombstone, bisbee, saguaro national monument...

I'll try to flight by Albuquerque :
-7/16 : Albuquarque(old town, indian pueblo cultural center, campus of university, some art deco buildings-Kimo theater,...)
-7/17 : Albuquerque/Gallup via El malpais and El Morro.
-7/18 : Gallup/Chaco Canyon/Gallup
-7/19 : Gallup/Acoma pueblo/Zuni pueblo/Gallup.
-7/20 : Gallup/petrified Forest/Flagstaff.
Coming back by a "north" road...
7/28 : Flagstaff/Hopi pueblos/Monument Valley/Bluff.
7/29 : Bluff/Monument Valley-Mistery Valley/Canyon de Chelley.
7/30 : Canyon de Chelley/Shiprock/Durango.
7/31 : Durango(relax or Mesa Verde or the train in Durango)
8/1 : Durango/Albuquerque.
If you want to skip the whole day in Durango, you can do the "detour" by Santa Fe and so :
7/31 : Durango/Santa Fe;
8/1 : Santa Fe and then Albuquerque.
El Malpais, El Morro, Petrified forest : hikes not so difficult and
warm t° would not be a great problem.
Chaco Canyon : check the road conditions.
Monument Valley : you can hike with a navajo guide( try the site
www.monumentvalley.com) : good descriptions. T° could be very hot...
Canyon de Chelley : hiking with guides in some parts, one hike is doable alone(White house...).
If you can, try to check an indian fest in a pueblo.
Erik.
