Your Fave Camping Spot in NY!
DH & I would like to do some car camping this summer in NY. I noticed Adirondack and Catskill Parks on the map. Any favorite camping spots/activities you'd like to share?
Just want to have a campfire, a good day hike, nice scenery, relax - would be fab if there was kayaking available, or maybe good bike paths. Not into fishing.
It would be great if it had some services nearby. I like cooking campfire breakfasts and packing lunch for a dayhike is good too. However, I like having dinner out.
Just long weekends - thinking Memorial Day (too early in the season?) and Labor Day.
Thx for any insights.
Enjoy-la!

Any of the state campgrounds in the Adirondacks are wonderful. Some are busier (with more scheduled things, more kids stuff, etc) than others.
I believe it is Rollins Ponds that has the bike path. Nearly any of them would have great kayaking.
Lake Harris is a nice quiet area, close to the wonderful Newcomb Interpretive Center. As I recall there are VERY few cottages on Lake Harris.

(This paper is a good source of info for the Adirondacks.)

Another idea is to rent a canoe/kayak and get an island campsite at Lower Saranac Lake. just a beautiful spot. I don't suggest Memorial Day though. The black flies are killer until mid-June.
We have always enjoyed car camping at Eaton Lake - it is just north of Long Lake in the Adirondacks.

Hey campers! I live here in the adirondacks and must agree we have tons of great places. As a camper I have been to many and I have recently (last 2 years) been enjoying Moreau Lake near Saratoga Springs/Lake George area. Gorgeous trails and swimming!Cheap-about $16 night and big wooded sites. Can't beat it!Travel 15 minutes to Glens Falls/Lake george for fun and shopping(or the six flags) Have fun!
