...you are amazed at all the extra light in your house after you take down the hurricane shutters.

...you see the satellite image of a spinning hurricane in your sleep.

...regular programming comes back on the television and you wonder what's wrong.

...you know that the latest updates from the National Hurricane Center come out at 11, 2, 5 and 8 AM/PM.

...you've helped neighbors you never knew secure their home and property.

...you've helped neighbors you never knew clean up their home and property.

...your perspective on the important things in life is now a little different...

TG & Friends.........
We drove up to Maine and had a great trip. We left on Wednesday morning at 5am, not looking back. (of course I worried the whole time that Ivan wrecked our Gulf Coast paradise.) We were so lucky that we both know many people that could give us accurate accounts of what was happening in our neighborhood.
Hope everything turned out okay in your neighborhoods.

No Scarlett, they are very good at laughing I assure you, they are true Floridians after all.

My (not yet retired) aunt is 80, was born in Miami, and has been there around the Gulf Coast most of her life, so they're probably more Floridian than many posters here. We've actually shared a few laughs today on the phone, but more of the family kind!

It's nice to see that you and your friends getting a few general laughs out of it all at this point, after all you must have been through. It's really great that you have a party spirit.

With at least 50 people gone and so many folks still missing and homeless in 5 or 6 states, I just wonder at the timing.

I think the Caribbean, Gulf Coast and Alabama really took it very hard on the chin, I'm still trying to imagine a 40 foot storm surge, as one of my cousins reported...

And here's another good joke, some stupid weatherman just said there's a chance that the remnants of Ivan might turn around and return to Florida and regather himself in the Gulf....Ha ha ha ha....

sognatrice, you said " With at least 50 people gone and so many folks still missing and homeless in 5 or 6 states, I just wonder at the timing."
I am sorry, I don't know what you mean. Timing of what?
I am happy for your aunt, God bless her, she has seen her fair share of hurricanes and bad weather here, hasn't she!

signatrice, I think you are misreading Scarlett and her other posters here.
I know they care and have their own problems. Please don't misread in these bad days that are overwhelming people in some states while we listen from a distance and cant be there to help.

You might be a Floridian, if...

...you can laugh at the horrors life has dealt you.

Scarletto...you might be a Floridian!

Hi, highbay! Hello to Maine. Eat a lobster for us. Too bad you're not here. The humidity is totally gone and there is a great cold front here.

Ha -- not!

Guess I shot myself on the foot, then put my foot in my mouth.

Scarlett, yeah, she's been through them all, since 1938.
And we've laughed out load with her in the face of very scary weather plenty of times, maybe more than you. This was a bigger storm than most others,

Your statement that you don't know what I mean about the death and destruction in other states is very clear. I'll just leave you to it, 'cause you're such a popular girl here. You sure as heck don't need my input.

In fact, I feel like a crasher at some private party, not a poster on a travel board.

When I first stopped in at the US board a couple of weeks ago, it was just to send all of you in Florida thoughts and prayers. And to find the right place to make contributions.

Cigelechanta, I'm not misreading the style of humor here at all, not to worry. Yes, I'm not there, and it's frustating to be far away and not be able to help my cousins hands-on. They took some very heavy losses. I'm sure we'll get these cute, hip jokes soon.

Bye. Keep on laughing.

Cute post : ) May I add a few more:

You've made weatherunderground.com your home page.

You can debate with ease around the water cooler whether the subtropical ridge will have any impact on the low pressure system.

and... You're planning a party for November 30 when Hurricane Season is officially over!!!

I asked about your "timing" remark because it was odd and unexpected, I was giving you the benefit of the doubt that it was not merely catty.

Since you failed to make any complaints on the other Hurricane Humor threads, I can only see this as a personal gripe of yours.

You have been noticed on other threads, making odd remarks to me.
Whatever.
Do what you feel you must do, it IS a travel board.
You are Free to talk about Travel anytime, or whatever else you wish to contribute.

When you make a personal remark, just expect to get one back.

You know, scarlett maybe you need to reread my post, which was not meant to be catty at all. Here;s a quote

"It's nice to see that you and your friends getting a few general laughs out of it all at this point, after all you must have been through. It's really great that you have a party spirit."

Guess that sounds really catty and odd to you, but I don't see it, nor was it meant that way.

I also remember sending you an extra email of concern when the first Hurricane was about to hit.

Instead of taking swipes at me, just go back to telling jokes, it's more fun, makes you sound nicer, and is a better use of your free time. I have less than no interest in wasting my day off in a catcalling contest with some stranger, so I'm going out now with friends.

As i mentioned before, I won't be interfering with you again. I didn't complain about Hurricane Humor before, and didn't really complain this time either, only about my own ability to laugh just yet.

You still have an enthusiastic audience who loves your posts, I don't why you would bother addressing me this way specifically. You have already made your personal point and then some.

Have a nice day
A second, and final good bye.

I am from Jacksonville . Where are you from Cuorecalda ? and welcome to Fodors!
Listen, If this is upsetting to anyone who has been through this terrible weather, just skip it.
It was never meant to offend anyone, even those who live in NY/elsewhere and have relatives in Fl.
Jeez, something to make people smile turns into a big debate over who is the most upset!

Scarlett, just ignore that idiot. we all have more important things to focus on. I don't understand how anyone could be so bitter and jealous about not being able to participate meaningfully in this discussion and so fabricates some obtuse story about an 80-year-old aunt to bring him/herself into some sort of relevance. I don't believe him/her. It's easy to sniff out a liar.

Keep smiling =D>

And I am from the Gulf coast. I have siblings in both New Orleans and Panama City. There are no boundaries to tragedy though and we are all doing our best to sort out a mess of catastropic proportions, and still go through everyday life. What we need is support not criticism.

I'll bet he/she has imaginary relatives deployed overseas....

Tampa. I am starting to plan a trip next year and thought I would try this message board.

Don't mean to offend Scarlett, but it sure sounds like you got pretty heavy-handed with the poster who was talking about relatives. It only sounded like they weren't ready for your humor at this point, that's all. And I kind of wondered about this subject too. Aren't the people on the Gulf Coast still having a pretty hard time? Ivan passed you by, didn't it?

And I don't mean to offend.
Since you have not been posting on Fodors before, perhaps you might wait to see how "heavy handed" I am, sognatrice is your previous screenname?

thanks Tandoori Girl, I am taking your advice NOW

You all sound a little too hardcore and nasty for me.
Your comments are very ugly, to say the least. Wow. I'm amazed at this!

Cuorecalda, as you probably know, we are all living and breathing hurricanes. At parties, in the grocery stores, in church, schools. IMO, the poster was the heavy-handed one. Don't you use some levity to escape this constant hurricane thing? Do you think it's fair to be criticised for that? What part of Tampa do you live in? I also live in Tampa.
