Yosemite

Could those of you familiar with the area tell me how is the drive, at night, from Yosemite Valley to Wawona? Is it safe?

I'm one of those people who is very uncomfortable on mountain roads. This one isn't too bad. Curves are smooth,it's well graded and trees all along help.

It's perfectly safe if you take it easy and don't have "night blindness" problems. Watch out for wildlife. Total distance is probably about 40 miles. Think I might want to have a cell phone with me just in case of car problems.

It's a long 40 miles. It is hilly and twisty and, of course, two lanes. But it's not too bad. Then again, I like twisty roads. I will say this --we stayed at Wawona when we went to Yosemite, so I made that drive twice a day (sometimes more) for 5 days in a row. It got old real quick. Do watch for wildlife, particularly at dusk. There will be several deer, some coyote and a few bears sauntering around.

Thank you for all of your responses. We will be staying at the Wawona Hotel. We would like to have dinner at the Ahwanee; however, we did not know whether the drive at night back to Wawona would be a good idea. We will take it slowly and enjoy the dinner.

By all means, go have dinner at the Awhanee, it is a fantastic hotel and the dining room is to die for.
Just take the windy roads slowly and you will be OK.
