Would You Go to Scottsdale in July?

I have been to Scottsdale several times - always in February. Beautiful. My husband has never been and I think he will love it.

I have Southwest Airlines vouchers which must be used before it cools off in Arizona (traveling from Detroit). I'm thinking of using the vouchers for travel to Phoenix (for our summer vacation. Obviously, it's not ideal - HOT, HOT, HOT -- a dry heat

We can get some great deals on luxury hotels. We aren't hikers -- we would do some shopping, eating, sightseeing - perhaps take a drive to Sedona.

Would you do it?

I am doing it!

My family is holding a family reunion near there (in Tempe) at the end of this July. As you mentioned, you can get some great deals in AZ that time of year and, since there are around sixty of us, we are taking advantage of it.

Lots of good resorts available for cheap, cheap, cheap. We decided on "Wyndham in The Buttes" as our oasis.

Turn up the aircon, here we come!

Thanks for responding - one vote for Arizona in July! I've been getting reasonable prices at the Scottsdale Princess - looks very nice! I'm going to go home tonight and pitch the plan to the fam!!!

A friend and i took advantage of cheap lodging and went to Scottsdale over July 4th last year. Great deal at Scottsdale Princess. yes it was hot during the day - drink lots of water! - but at night we'd sit on our balcony and marvel at how weightless the air felt. Also we had shops in old town Scottsdale almost entirely to ourselves!! Great deals and service.

Thanks for the support. I know it will be hot, but I don't think it will be as bad as a trip we took to Williamsburg in July a few years ago. It was a 100 degrees and VERY humid. I thought I was going to die.

A couple of things we'll have to pass on is Taliesin West, Rawhide and the Desert Botanical Gardens. We will do those things some day when we visit in the winter - can't handle them in the heat.

Hi Mikesmom! Do it, go! And have a blast! We've done it too, several times, as part of our out west road trips. And we're doing it again this summer. Yes, its HOT but we loved it (we're from the NE and ALWAYS cold!) And no, its not nearly as bad as Williamsburg in the summer, we've done that also and couldn't stand it. And yes, the scottsdale deals are amazing! We've stayed at the Princess and Phoenician among others, for a song, like 70ish bucks or so. The surprising thing, the last time there ('03) there were tons of families. Guess the word is out that its a blast and worth it! Have a great time!

Thanks everyone. Now, I just have to sell my husband (he's easy) and my 18 year old son. Not sure if he'll want to go with us -- he's graduating from high school next month -- he may want to stay home. I would like him to go with us because it's the last family trip before he goes away to college
