Would you choose Northwest or Southwest for a flight from Phila. to Seattle?

Andrew, that's what I meant. That's why I typed 'refund', because you don't actually get your money back.
You get a credit on your account, not a voucher per se, because it's not on paper.
Another good thing about it is that you can use that credit to buy a ticket for a different passenger; it doesn't have to be the same original passenger.
This policy has saved me many, many times with my college students' airfare.

I've used Southwest's "no change fee/cancel-get-credit" thing more than once too - I love it. I am not surprised they will extend a voucher for $50 (although if your voucher is $100 it almost defeats the purpose). I also know Southwest will extend a frequent flyer award by a year for $50, which is something I am no considering for one that expires in November. I expect Southwest airfares to be even higher in 2009 given that their fuel hedge will gradually trend up...

If by any chance your flight is a late, Southwest will hold your connecting flight for at least 15 minutes... I've been on flights waiting for passengers and I have been the passenger that the flight is waiting for!
