The area around and within 5-7 miles of Greenway Plaza toward downtown is the place to live in Houston if you're single. This area is inside the 610 loop and it is very trendy, but has beautiful homes, wonderful restaurants, and it is central, so traffic anywhere from there is not bad. I have lived in that area for 7 years and I have lived in Houston for the majority of my 35 years. If you want to know any more specifics, please e-mail me and I'll see if I can help. Good luck!

Most of the area around Greenway is office buildings. You must live in a much smaller city since you're wondering about safety. Am I correct?

Houston is as safe as any place, you just have to know what places you shouldn't go to at night and don't go hanging out alone and look like a victim. Common sense goes a long way.

No, that won't prevent being a crime victim, but in some cases, being knowledgeable and prepared can scare off somebody who's up to no good.

The area around Greenway shuts down at night, because it's mostly offices. There is the Compaq center where they play basketball and hockey, but if none of that is going on, it's dead. It's not bordering one of the projects or high crime areas if that's what you're wondering.
