Within 4 Hours of Greensboro, NC

Help! Looking for ideas for a long weekend vacation within 4 hours of Greensboro that does not involve "the great outdoors" or historical stuff (museums, etc.).

That's tough. I'll assume you mean 4 hours driving time. Do you include beaches in your definition of "great outdoors"? If not, I would recommend Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach. It's a nice beach (though can be a bit pricy) and Wilmington has a nice riverfront downtown with numerous shops/restaurants/bars (though not on the scale of Charleston/Savannah). And it's a straight shot down I-40.

Helen, how familiar are you with this area, what types of activities do you want, and what do you mean by the great outdoors? There are several interesting places within four hours, but if great outdoors includes beaches, I am not exactly sure what to say. There are theme parks, such as Carowinds, Busch Gardens, and Kings Dominion within that distance (or pretty close to it). If you are looking for a city experience, you could probably drive up to the Washington, D.C.-Baltimore area for the weekend (of course lots of historical stuff there too). Asheville, in the NC mountains also makes for a nice trip.

Sorry - I guess I posed a very vague question. I do enjoy some of the "Great Outdoors" like: rafting, and tubing. Would like to try kayaking and horseback-riding. Don't care much for camping or hiking. Am searching for new experiences, like when I went to my 1st Nascar shortly after moving down here or a unique Country restaurant where the food was brought to the table in big bowls (just like at Grandma's). Just something different to do..... Thanks for any hints - I've not been to Baltimore yet.
