Winter getaway no skiing
My husband and I want to stay in January at a nice resort with mountain views but are not going to go skiing or any other winter pasttime. Crazy, yes maybe, but want to enjoy views in a hot tub or spa. Ideas?

Does it have to be Colorado? Park City is an hour outside of Salt Lake City and has a a lot of arts and culture with the mountain views, just a hip, cool place - Stein Eriksen Lodge is a personal favorite. Also, check out Ketchum and Sun Valley, ID. - it is a classic old-time ski town with a rugged Old West feel, yet stylish, cool vibe. It is in a valley (Sun Valley) and has mountains all around the little town of Ketchum. There are mountains in every direction. Fun and funky upscale shops, outstanding world-class dining restaurants and down-home comfort food, too. There is a classic ski resort that has an amazing spa with outdoor pool that looks over the mountains and another European Relais & Chateaux resort that is much smaller, but also divine.
Other suggestions are Whistler, B.C., and Banff, Alberta....
Best Regards,
Julia

Telluride, Colorado--southwest part of Colorado. Most beautiful area of Colorado. Telluride has two areas connected with a free gondola. The lower part is a historic area of town with shopping, restaurants, etc. The upper part of the mountain has the ski area with wonderful 360 degree views of mountains. There are very nice resorts that have views with hot tubs, etc. So, you have the best of both worlds.

Since you don't need skiing (or mountains for that matter), why don't you visit a city that has a mild climate (in the day) for walking around, but cold nights for enjoying the hot tub. Maybe somewhere in the Southwest, where you can still get your mountain vistas?

If Colorado appeals to you, I can recommend the Devil's Thumb Ranch, near Winter Park, Colorado. It has been completely refurbished, but in a very nice, authentic Old West style, with all the amenities of an upscale spa. Their Ranch House restaurant is elegant, and the Heck's Tavern is good for everyday meals. A lovely setting with panoramic views. They have sleigh rides and Nordic skiing, but you don't sound interested in those.
Another smaller place in Colorado is the Redstone Lodge, http://www.redstoneinn.com/
Most other ski resorts in Colorado also caters to non-skiers, and I would recommend Aspen, Crested Butte, Telluride, Steamboat Springs, of those.
