Wilmington, NC, in March
Hi. I am a student who will be attending a
conference in Wilmington in the middle of March and will be staying at the Hilton. I am curious to how the weather is that time of year and also if there is any entertainment around that area. I will have a car. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.

There ae 2 places to party in Wilmington. The first, which I prefer, is downtown - where you are staying. The downtown area is experiencing and incredible rebirth with lots of bars/restaurants/night spots. Just walk out of your hotel and stoll through the historic district. It's like a little Charleston (with the emphasis on "little").
The other area is down at the beach - Wrightsville Beach. It's about 20 minutes from downtown and has a very different atmosphere - more of a low-brow meat market, but lots of fun if you're with friends or looking to score. Be careful driving, the Wrightsville police are really tough on drinking and driving.
As far as the weather, you definitely won't be able to swim, but if La Nina keeps up, you may be able to sit on the beach. Just beware, you'll be in the middle of spring break, and parking at the beach will be tough (but not impossible).
Have fun!

Hi, I agree with Brian about downtown Wilmington, great little shops to browse through, plenty of hang-outs. I lived in Wilmington for 2 years and visit there atleast twice a year and it changes a little everytime I go. There are a lot more younger people visiting since "Dawson's Creek" came to town. Definitely check-out Wrightsville Beach, but do the speed limit (25). The cops are tough. I do not know how long your stay is for but if you are looking for a good place to eat, the Oceanic on the beach is excellent, try the crab dip. The weather at that time is usually in the low 70's, but sometimes it could be a little cooler. Have a great time!
