williamsburg hotel recommendations- July

Our family of four (two children 12 and 8) are planning a vacation to Williamsburg Va in July. We would appreciate any recommendations for a nice hotel in the area. We need a minimum of 2 double beds and would like a pool. A suite would be preferable but not a necessity. Thanks for your input.

We stayed at The Fort Magruder Inn when we visited Williamsburg four years ago. We enjoyed it very much. Good location between Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens (which we loved).

Mary,

Several years ago, we stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites and it worked fine for us. You can get add'l info about hotels in the area from http://www.hotelwilliamsburg.com/williamsburghotels.htm. I can't remember if the Hampton had a pool--we were there in April.

We generally like to stay in Hamptons if we can, because suites work well for us (we've got a boy and a girl, 12 and 15).

We couldn't just walk to historic Williamsburg from the hotel--it was on a pretty congested roadway not far from the historic area. If I had to do it over again, I might try to find a place closer in to the middle of town. The site I noted above shows you maps, which might help.

We had a great time--we wish we'd stayed longer than two nights.

Hope this helps!

We stayed at the Williamsburg Woodlands. It's right next to the Visitors Center; you can catch a free shuttle or walk to Historic Williamsburg. There's a restaurant near by, pool, minature golf, ping pong tables, and lots of kids. The rooms were plain but clean. There are also laundry facilites (with long lines). Our unit was very close to the golf course, etc. and it is kind of big so if you were far in the back, it may not feel as convenient. Still a good location; we parked the car and didn't drive again until we left for a trip to Busch Gardens. Look at www.history.org.

We were in Williamsburg during Easter vacation and stayed at the Best Western Patrick Henry. Our room had two double beds. It has a large pool and best of all, it is 1/2 block from the historic area. We paid just $80.00 during Easter (the cheapest of all our hotels) and it even included a continental breakfast.
It wasn't luxurious but is was very well located and well priced. P.S. We feared that Williamsburg would be really touristy but it was wonderful!
