Why some posters use them? Are you expecting everyone to know what place you have in mind? Just check out the latest post WDW. It doesn't say where it is and therefore cannot be a help to any others who maybe need the same information but are not familiar with those codes you are using. Think of others who are less familiar with the codes of the cities

What would you rather type? Walt Disney World or WDW?

People who can answer the question would know what it means.

Ok, is LGT LaGuardia? EWR is Newark, WDW is Walt Disney World, MST is Mountain Standard Time? LSD -- you mean the drug? What we need is a directory of these things, right? What about their origin, too? As in, ORD=Old Orchard Field= O'Hare

And anyone recognize "my" initials?

What a great idea LSMFT
I think we should remember that fodors.com is visited also by people who do not live in the US but are planning trip here and are looking for some information. Lets accommodate everyone and not only people who know the codes of the citie in the US

While I agree that people who can answer the questions always recognize the intials, I think a problem comescin when doing a search. I may want information on O'hare so I type that in as my keyword; however, the computer doesn't recognize ORD and O'hare are the same so it won't bring up the ORD posts. Too bad computers aren't smarter and people like me don't always remeber to type full names. LOL!
