No, I don't use a fake email name...never have, never will. A fake name is like an unsigned check: worthless and not worthy of notice.

I want to use my real email but I keep hearing on Fox News that security experts say that we should never give our opinions and information (e.g. I live on the upper east side...) and our real email address. Does anyone know of some way that Fodors could know the real email and use some fake name for comments? I saw the Europe site today where someone was asking peoples ages and where they live just so they get some idea of who is responding. I liked that thread (I was actually surprised by the age of the people responding) but the amount of information people give is amazing. The combination of too many warning with the assholes that I have heard about this week make me use a fake name. Do you believe that people are scamming victims families of the WTC attack for personal information (eg social security numbers). The amount of people that want personal information (even if it is less than 1 percent it is a lot) is just too great. If I say that Israel should die (I only pick that example because I would never say that especially before my High Holy Day) or that some other country should cease to exist, I also don't want some lunie to know who I am cause people can actually find people. Scary.

JJ, I share your concerns about revealing personal information. Especially on a travel board, where one easily also reveals when one won't be home!

Of course, the technology exists for Fodor's to know people's real e-mails but let them use aliases. One of the many sites that does this is abuzz.com. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to keep people from posting obnxious stuff on abuzz!
