Hi Mary - I apologize, for I haven't been to Arrows, but my husband and I and my family have gone to White Barn Inn for dinner on many occassions (we go usually for celebrations or during the christmas holiday). The service, atmosphere, and food are absolutely wonderful. It is very pricey, for two people for a meal and wine and tip, you won't come out of there under $250 - but it's well worth it. If you go with a large group, every person at the table is served at the same time by a different waiter/waitress - it is quite a sight! I believe they just got more recognition - if there is such a standard that is higher than a Relais & Chateau, they got it - we recently got a notice of their new quality standard. . . . sorry - my mind is failing me! You won't be sorry you choose the White Barn Inn - it is a great place. Highly recommended.

Mary,

I assume you're talking about White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport? If so, it's absolutely incredible. I went for the first time last fall and rank it as one of my best dining experiences ever (but thankfully I wasn't paying!) If they have lobster the night you go, I highly recommend it. It was one of the most delicious meals I've ever had. The atmosphere and service are top-notch as welll.

Enjoy!

I can't comment on "The Arrows" as I haven't had the pleasure, but I have eaten at The White Barn and long after the money is spent you WILL remember the meal. The "garden window" will take your breath away. One of the most (if not the most) incredible dining experiences ever. I live in L.A. and we have lots of truly great restaurants but none better then the White Barn. It's magical!!!

White Barn Inn is wonderful and has gotten rave reviews I would just suggest you call as soon as you decide to get reservations as they do book up and I believe that guests staying at the Inn(or their other Inn's in town) get reservations first.

I appear to be the only one so far who has been only to Arrows, and I can recommend it highly--superior food, service, wine list, ambiance. Either way you can't go wrong.

I've heard lots about The White Barn Inn, but I don't know Arrows. Where is it, and is it a similar style of dining?

Bonjour from Montreal, I have been to Arrow's in Ogunquit, it was one of the most memorable meals ever, the kind you remember years after. Yes it was expensive especially when you factor in our Canadian exchange rate, but nonetheless it was outstanding. It is no wonder they got such a great write-up in either Gourmet or Bon Appetit, I forget. Get there at least a half hour before your reservation (a must) to walk around the grounds, flower beds and organic veggies are truly the chef's drawing card.
Enjoy.

Haven't tried White Barn, but highly recommend Arrows. Secluded, gorgeous location - absolutely amazing food and service. Foodies from the Boston area think nothing of driving up and back in an evening for the experience - although we prefer to spend the night in the area so that we can enjoy the wonderful wine list!

Hi Mary, I've been to both. If I could pick just one to go to it would be Arrows. Most of the locals (Yes I live in this area)I know who have been to both prefer Arrows. Both are wonderul dinning experiences. Kathy

Mary ... I too live in the area and have been to both the White Barn and Arrows on several occassions each. The White Barn is spectacular but beware -- the service is SO outragious that you can't sneeze without getting a new napkin. It's almost overkill. I actually prefer Arrows. The menu is very inventive -- quite a bit of fusion and really different selections. Arrows also has a fabulous view of their own gardens, from which they pick herbs, etc. for their dishes. The staff is extremely friendly. It comes down to this ... if you want over the top service in a more formal atmosphere, choose the White Barn. If you want a fabulous meal in a lovely setting with great service but without that "stuffy" feeling, go for Arrows. Either way, you'll have an evening to remember.

the last post made me laugh...it's true. I had to leave the table several times during the evening to use the ladies room and as soon as I returned to the table a waiter would present me with a new napkin, draping it ceremoniously over my lap. He was young and cute though and not "stuffy" at all. The place is gorgeous!!!
