Which Is Nicer: Cape Cod or Martha's Vineyard?

After seeing someone's post here for these two places, I am thinking of making a trip there for Memorial Day weekend myself.

Is one nicer than the other? What are the differences between Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard? I would really like to find that quaint New England seaside village feeling, with great seafood restaurants, some cute shops, and a bit of nightlife (just a bar or two). I have been to Kennebunkport, Maine and Ogunquit, Maine, so I guess that's what I'm looking for. I agree with the other poster though, Maine is a bit too long of a drive for 3 days, esp. with all of the Memorial Day weekend traffic we are going to hit.

And, if it were up to you, would you stay the Charlotte Inn in Martha's Vineyard, or Chatham Bars Inn on Cape Cod?

Thanks so much for your help!!

The Chatham Bars Inn is lovely and so is all of Chatham! You won't be disappointed, and you'll save all that transit time that would be wasted getting over to MV.

Chatham defnitely and second the Chatham Bars Inn. Another place would be Hyannis. Lots of quaint, funky shops and galleries there as well as everything you can imagine to eat! Take the ferry over to Martha's Vineyard for the day if you want. BTW....The world famous Black Dog in Edgartown...highly over rated and you can't get a drink there. The town is dry and still observes blue laws. Go elsewhere for a beer on the Vineyard if you go over.

Ick, forget Hyannis is you're looking for that "quaint New England seaside village feeling".

I've stayed at the Charlotte Inn several times.
It is very, very nice, but can be rather stuffy feeling. Expensive antique furnishings in most rooms, no food of any type allowed in rooms, owners are very protective (and rightly so). So if that puts you off, you may not think it's worth the $$. But the better rooms are the nicest period-type rooms you'll find in all of New England. The Summer House suite and Coach House suite book up many months in advance for popular dates.

Martha's Vineyard is MUCH nicer than Cape Cod. As is Nantucket. THe only place on the cape that comes close is Chatham, but it still doesn't compare.
