Check the reviews on Tripadvisor.com

Seems like the Marriott and the Sheraton are the higher-rated 4*s, followed by the Westin and Radisson.

Doubt it's the nicest, but we spent the night at the Holiday Inn-International Airport (310-649-5151) prior to an early flight to Acapulco last November. We were comfortable, our room was clean, the staff pleasant and while the restaurant didn't have the best food, it was okay and convenient since we had no car (a lounge/bar area is adjacent to the dining room). The price was certainly right at $89.00 + 14% tax. The free shuttle took us to LAX at the crack of dawn the next day.

"Nicest" is subjective, and involves dollar signs. We stayed at the Westin and it was very acceptable.

Most of the Marriotts, Westins, etc. may be "nice" hotels, but they are not in a "nice" area. Is this for just a short layover, or for an extended trip?

If it is a short trip, and you need to stay close to the airport, I would recommend bidding on a 4* in the LAX area on Priceline.

If you are staying longer, and would like to be in a pleasant neighborhood, I would look into the area around Manhattan Beach or Marina del Rey.

The Marriott is acceptable with an adequate restaurant. Convenient shuttle service to the airport.

thanks all! a friend of mine reminded me about priceline so we'll go that route for one of the 4stars. I even saw Radisson for $100/night...not bad.

It's just for one night... on our way back from Tahiti heading to the east coast. : )

That's a great price for the Westin!!! We've stayed there twice, and like it a lot. The beds are SO comfortable.

That seems to be the going rate. Many recent reports of $65 Westin on biddingfortravel.com. One get the Sheraton, also $65.
