Which Hotel in DisneyWorld

I've been to WDW 4 times over the years and have done it all different ways. Definitely stay in Disney- and you probably can find a lot newer and nicer than Contempory for the price. Contempory and Polynesian are too much in the heavy traffic for my taste. There are so many to choose from now that I'd
look at that Wilderness Lodge postings here- or take someone's advice that has just gone. Things change a lot at Disney and the newer ones are still super accessible.

You are right to stay in Disney World. There are a lot of nice hotels in WDW. However, we have not stayed at a lot of them. Try the Resorts and Restaurants Discussion Board at www.wdwinfo.com. I have gotten a great deal of information from their discussion boards when preparing for trips to WDW šOš

do you have a budget in mind? WDW resorts range from about $90 to nearly $400 per night, depending on views, 'deluxeness' of the hotel, location, time of year, applicable discounts (eg Magic Kingdom Club, many employers do this perk).
Having said that, my family's been to WDW yearly for the last 7 years, usually staying 12-14 days each trip.
I wouldn't dream of NOT staying in a WDW hotel...to me that's half the fun...I'd save up money & go another year, rather than stay "off world".
Contemporary - strikes me like being in middle of a train station. WAY too much racket & commotion. Doesn't strile as partuclarly pretty or pleasant. (I've not actually stayed there)
Polynesian (also on monorail loop to Magic Kingdom)- I stayed for a few days one year & transferred to Beach Club. My room badly needed refurbishing. Pool was mediocre - just a smallish "plain" pool with a dinky water slide. Overall unimpressive.
Dixe Landings - very nice for about $150 /night. Nice pool. Beautiful landscaping. I like the "bayou" themed rooms over the "manor" themed. "Aayou" rooms are closer to the main building & front desk. This is not to be dismissed, this is a huge reosrt with 2000 rooms. It's a LONG walk from the outlying rooms. I've stayed at Dixe Landings twice. Similar to Port Orleans.
Beach Club - my OVERWHELMING favorite! I love this place! Have stayed there 5 times now. Beautiful location, across the lagoon from Boardwalk Inn. Fabulous, incredible pool. Five minute walk to Epcot, 10-15 minute by boat to MGM, busses to the rest. Excellent restaurants across lagoon at Boardwalk (Flying Fish Cafe is tops). The sister resort Yacht Club shares amenities & is comparable. Yacht Club is a 3-3 minutes further from Epcot & the pool complex, so we prefer Beach Club. Standard View room rates are nearly $300 (with tax) per night in high season, but with Magic Kingdom Club discount can be had for $230 (book early, 6-9 months ahead).

Haven't stayed at the Contemporary -- my favorites are the Boardwalk and Beach/Yacht Club. Also, if you're stayed for many days, it's sometimes fun to switch hotels so you can check out more than one. It's good to book ahead, but do not hesitate to keep calling back to see if there's better rooms available -- it changes daily.

We have been to Disney 4 times and always stay on property. The Beach Club is by far the best place we have stayed. Quite a bit more expensive but worth it. The grounds are BEAUTIFUL!! Everything about this resort is wonderful. We had no complaints about anything.
