Jack,
I respectfully have to disagree with you. I think it can be a valied point to raise especially with some of the older terminals at LaGuardia. A dirty, old terminal with narrow hallways, small baggage claim areas that are difficult to navigate in a crowd, cramped seating areas and lack of food choices, is much less appealing than a clean, new and modern facility. I think that would definately make a difference if your flight were delayed.
I respect your view as clearly this is a subject that is important to you. I guess that's why you felt the need to reply in such a condescending tone.
Hope you had a good holiday.

S,
Do you have an hour to read the answer about the complicated politics of the Port Authority and the relationship between New York and New Jersey?
The 3 New York area airports are operated by one agency, the Port Authority. The PA answers to the Governors of both states. The Governors answer to voters from their own respective states. That is usually a recipe for complications in getting projects approved and completed.
Things are starting to get better. The rail link to Newark airport and the planned train to JFK, will make life much easier.

I prefer Newark, but beware, taxi service is around $55/65 metered from Newark (a huge difference from the $20/30 metered from LGA.
I suggest reserving a car service for around $40/50 flat, or using the SuperShutle (as mentioned before - a shared van service). If you're on a tight buget, then the train is best; but you take a tram around the airport to the train to PenStation then (pressumably) a cab to your hotel. ON/OFF three times.
I agree traffic is a crapshoot from either airport; so if you can't stand traffic (or can't chance a traffic delay))-take the train from EWR.
Good luck, and have a nice time in my home town, NYC.
