Where's a good place to watch fireworks in San Francisco July 4?

Every summer we take our granddaughter (12 yrs) somewhere. This year she wanted to return to San Francisco, where we visited 3 years ago. We will be in San Francisco over the 4th, staying at Hyatt Regency (end of California Street). We do have a car, but if I don't have to use it, that is great. Our room will be on the lower floors, so view from the room won't be good.

Is there a good viewing area for fireworks? Just wondering.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Probably not the case. I've stayed there several times on different floors and the views have all been great (there is nothing between you and the Bay/bridge except for the low height Ferry Bldg). But the fireworks are set off to the north so you'd probably want to walk north along the Embarcadero.

Do be aware that you might not see much anywhere . . . If it is hot inland over the 4th it could be very foggy by fireworks time.

I once went to a July 4 house party in an apartment w/ amazing city/bay views - at 3PM you could see the bay - by 6PM it was a gray wall and by fireworks time all there was was noise - no view.

The best place to see fireworks in the Bay Area on the Fourth is usually anyplace BUT San Francisco. As janis has noted we often get fog and no view of the fireworks. Fog is predicted for this Fourth. Here is a round up of Fourth activities in SF and elsewhere in case you want to explore alternatives.

I got lucky for my 4th of July San Francisco visit! Stayed with a friend living on the top floor of a 3 story triplex in the Marina District. The neighbors and a few additional lucky friends such as myself joined in for a roof top BBQ with all the fixings and watched the fireworks all over the bay. Just a little windy, but clear. Great memory.

Good luck with the weather!

Wear warm clothing - we are from New England, the day had been warm, but standing to see fireworks in SF was the coldest I have ever been on a July 4th. That cold fog rolled in and we froze.

Ok, I'm gettin' the picture on the fireworks thing.
Yes, we've been to San Francisco many times for over 60 years. Guess maybe never on July 4. Live about 3 hours away in the central valley. We know when it's hot here (100 or so or higher) it will be foggy and cold in SF and along the coast.
Mark Twain said what? The coldest I've ever been was one July in San Francisco, or something like that.
Anyway, not seeing fireworks will be ok. Not a problem.
