Go to the oldest restaurant in New Orleans, Antoines. The lump crab, oysters, jambalaya and Baked Alaska are famous. Don't forget to have the Cafe Diable Brulot to finish!

I ate at Antoine's when I was 12. Still remember what I had. It was a BIG deal back then. Can't remember hearing it recommended since.

Ate at Antoine's recently. Had an excellent peach melba, a good trout almondine, and a not-good oysters Rockefeller at dinner. It was a mixed experience, at its best worthwhile, at its worst not a good thing. Am thinking there are better choices if one wants a single splurge restaurant experience.
