Where to stay when driving.

We want to drive to NYC, but of course, don't want to stay in the city. Can anyone rerecommend somewhere towards Flushing that we could stay and leave our car and take public transportation into the city and to u.s.tennis open? Be the best of both worldsThanks,
suzyque

Probably the easiest in terms of public transportation into Manhattan would be to stay in Long Island City. From there, personally, i'd drive to tennis -- the parking lot is huge (shared with Citi Field, where the Mets play).

Parking in LIC can be difficult depending on where you are, but there are some reasonably priced lots, and I agree it's the best place to stay on the subway if you need to drive. I have friends who often do this when they drive in for a weekend from Central Connecticut. But driving to the stadium is a particularly bad idea if you don't know your way around, and it's expensive to boot. If you stay in LIC, you are near the 7 train, which goes straight to the tennis center for $2.75 each way per person. You're also close to Manhattan in LIC (1 to 3 subway stops depending on where you enter Manhattan). You really can't do better than that. But just be aware that you are coming on one of the busier weeks of the year here, and rates are high while availability is already very low, particularly on the cheap end.
