Where to stay in St. Louis?

Hi, single mom here, I've got a family trip planned in late July to St. Louis. 3 kids, ages 5, 7, and 8. Friends have told me East St. Louis is a great place to stay. Cheap, afforable, and a great place to experience the city. Anyone have anything else to add?

I doubt any person who is a friend would recommend East St. Louis with any sincerity. Nice try, but this could not be a legitimate request, East St. Louis on the Illinois side anyway is no place for a family to vacation.

Cute. Hee hee.

C'mon "Jane".....you can come up with a more imaginative bit of bait for us than that, can't you?
Hamfisted amateur troll fodder.
You're only slightly higher on the evolutionary ladder than the gay-bashing and child bashing trollers.

We used to stay at the Holiday Inn Riverfront, but found that the Holiday Inn Clayton Plaza was much nicer and close to the Zoo, which is free and awesome!! HI Clayton is located in a "business district" but it has an indoor pool which is nice, in case it rains and the restaurant is good, has a nice breakfast buffet. good luck and have fun!

A lot of people have mentioned that the new Westin Cupples Station across from Busch Stadium downtown is a good choice. Not only is the hotel great - because it is a new hotel - just opened this spring - they have been offering good rates.

Actually, the hotel at the Casino Queen - I forget the name of the hotel - IS a teriffic place to stay. Step outside your door and you have immediate access to MetroLink to take you to the fabulous St. Louis Zoo, Union Station, the Arch, airport, Busch Stadium........

Staying there if you are driving is also convenient - in five minutes you're across the bridge and in downtown St. Louis.

"yeah sure" and "insult" must have forgot about this hotel in their haste to be clever.

Also, nowhere is the St. Louis Arch and skyline better than when viewed from East St. Louis!

Have a great stay.

There are lots of great places to stay in St. Louis. East St. Louis is not one, and across the river at the casino is not one.

The Sheraton St. Louis City Center (on 14th Street, near Union Station) opened just this week - you might be able to get a good deal there. Also the St. Louis Westin - also rather new and mentioned above - would probably be good. But with baseball season in full swing, Cardinal fans have probably already discovered it.

BTW, the hotel at the Casino Queen in East St. Louis, IL is called the Crowne. It is directly on the Mississippi River opposite downtown St. Louis, MO. I've never stayed there, but have heard it's nice.

I've read the previous posts and the thing about E. St. L. is that it is about 99% black and is notorious in our area as a place with much crime. Thus the snickers in a couple of previous posts. IMHO I would prefer to stay right downtown St. Louis, but the Crowne wouldn't be bad if you got a great deal. It probably does have the best view of downtown and driving a couple of blocks puts you on the Poplar Street Bridge and in downtown St. Louis. The Casino Queen area is not in the high crime area of E. St. Louis. In fact a lot of their customers are little ole white ladies who prefer it to other casinos in the area.

But, I'd stay at the Westin or Sheraton.
