Where to stay in South Beach?

We are looking for something moderately priced, but not a dump. We will be in town for 2 nights in January. Any suggestions would help so much!

Thank you!

There are 2 hotels I usually stay at when The Tides and The Delano are booked. They are The Avalon and The Marlin. They are both on Ocean Drive where all the action is.

Try the South Florida Hotel Network at 800-536-3616. We used its services a couple years ago and were very satisfied. They will tell you what's available and at what price. We stayed at the Leslie on Ocean Drive.

We arrived in South Beach a few years ago without reservations and checked out all the hotels at the beach. We ended up at the Savoy (a Sunterra resort). We liked it's Art Deco/arty decor, our room looked like a Persian harem and the hotel was one of the only ones with a private beach.

A second for The Marlin on Washington Ave. Also consider The Clevelander on Ocean Dr. Great party scene there and decent, moderately priced rooms.

DO NOT STAY AT THE DELANO, but do go there! That is, if you want moderately priced rooms. It is very expensive, but very cool. Almost clubby. Best night is Wed.

Hi Kristen- Off track here, but have to disagree with Ryan- Spent two nights at Delano in October, second time we'd been there-got a great rate the first time through the hotel, asking for "run of the hotel"- you get what they have available- Second time got a rate on the internet @250.00 per night- Okay , maybe that's not considered moderate, but was well worth the treatment we got from the staff, and being able to hang out at the FABULOUS pool. High season rates may not be comparable. Did have dinner at Blue Door- Not as great as before, but great atmosspere! Room was small but VERY sexy!!!

Allow me to discuss the Delano and National.

Overpriced, overestimated. I was at the Delano Friday night. $460 for a standard room, two beds...all it is is all white...not that large;it's just to say you "stayed at the Delano." Same goes for The National, which is right next door - aaprox. $360 for a standard room. NOT worth it..you can get lots of other hotels (Ritz Plaza - for example and others on the same side of the street that aren't "name" hotels for a lot less. Please don't throw away your money, I couldn't believe the prices, more than NY hotels which truly ARE luxurious!
