Where to spend a night between Truth or Consequences and Santa Fe?

We are going to a hot spring spa in T & C because we are kind of burnt out. From there we will head north to Sante Fe. Since the drive to Santa Fe according to mapquest is about 4 hours and there is only one driver, i think it would be nice to spend the night in a small town somewhere in between. We don't like ABQ right now because we are coming from a city. Some place quant and simple would be good. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

The distance between Truth or Consequences and Santa Fe is a little over 200 miles, most of it desert driving.

I believe the speed limit in the desert is 75 mph, so you should be able to make TorC to SF in a little over 3 hours. Unless you are planning on arriving in Albuquerque at peak traffic hour.

I'd suggest that you drive about an hour or two and stop for lunch or dinner. Then continue on for another hour or two. It's not that difficult to drive that distance in the desert. Interstate 25 is a very easy four-lane highway.

There is no point in stopping in-between, since the only really viable stop is Socorro. You'll be better off staying in TorC (more hotel choices) than driving an hour and stopping in Socorro, IMHO.

There is a really nice B&B in the North Valley of ABQ. I highly recommend it, but you will be just 1 hour or so south of Santa Fe. Los Poblanos Inn.

There are several other B&B's in ABQ that are quite nice as well.

There isn't really any quaint places between T or C and ABQ.

I agree with easy trav -- I live in Santa Fe and depending upon the skills of the driver and the time of day, it could take even less than 3 hrs. You could leave in the AM, stop for a change of pace in ABQ and have lunch in S.F. Unfortunately, I heard a very bad report of construction on I-25 last Friday from another Fodorite; I suggest checking this out before you make your decisions. You could drive from TorC to ABQ, go east on I-40 to Hwy 14 (called The Turquoise Trail) and drive up that route thru Madrid. It would be prettier.......

Thanks all of you for your prompt reply.
It turns out the restaurant in the spa is closed. We decided to go to Jemez Springs instead. Thanks again.
