where to send parents in South Carolina?

I would appreciare any suggestions on places to send my parents for their honeymoon in south carolina. they want to go in the fall of this year or spring next year. Is either a better time? they like golf, antiques and nature. i was thinking a resort type place or B&B. also they love history and old houses.
is the Biltmoor estate in S. carolina? thank you so much for any help.

The most wonderful place I have ever visited is Charleston, SC. In April they have a Home and Gardens Tours that takes you on tours of privately owned historic homes. In the evening they have a candlelight tour. Magnolia Gardens are spectacular and Charles Kuralt named as one of the favorite 12 places he re-visited. Fort Sumter is a good place to visit if one likes Civil War history. The Citadel Dress parade is held every Friday. There are many plantations and historic homes to visit. It's a beautiful city.

Agree with the comments on Charleston, it is beautiful! Lot of golfing on the Coast side, especially up around the Myrtle Beach area. Lot to do there but very touristy and crowded during summer. The Biltmore is in Ashville North Carolina on the West side of the state and is a nice day trip. It might be a nice place to visit on the way to Charleston. No preference on Spring or Fall but to me a vacation is always better sooner than later!

Charleston has all of what you mentioned. They should go in the spring to get the benefit of the azaleas in bloom as well.
Charleston is over 300 years old. They can go on a horse and buggy ride downtown for a tour. They can visit the shops where sweets are made while you watch. They can buy oil paintings, hand made baskets, spices, etc, in the Market Place, (aka the Old Slave Market), they can vist the beaches, they can dine on as good a seafood as in New Orleans, but without the cayenne. The Exchange Building at the end of Broad Street is a must see. Storytellers in costume tell of pirates being held in the basement. Don't overlook the Dock Street Theatre, the oldest theater in the US.
Charleston has Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie, Middleton Gardens, the only US tea plantation (I can't think of the name of it), and yes, even golf courses. There is a B&B in town that will not allow children due to the antiques, Holiday Inns, and special resort arrangements can be made on Kiawa Island, where there are tennis and golf courses. There are so many things to see and do in Charleston for the type of people you described.
Spring is when it would also be easier to book tours. Things slow down after Labor Day and they might miss something.

Good luck!

Ditto the above comments about Charleston. If they are into historical places, then they will fall in love with Charleston. It's a wonderful place to visit.

Charleston is fabulous! There are many B&Bs in the area as well as excellent shopping, antiquing, dining and house tours galore!! The city is very "walkable" so you won't necessarily need a car. House tours cost about $5.00 each and there are many to choose from. Some favorites of mine are: the Edmonston-Alston house, Calhoun Mansion, and Nathaniel Russell house. Outside Charleston (you'll need a car), don't miss the Aiken-Rhett house, Drayton Hall, and Magnolia Plantations & Gardens. Excellent places to dine in Charleston are: Magnolia's Uptown/Down South, Sermet's Corner, and 82 Queen. Also, don't miss a visit to Olde Colony Bakery on King Street for their Benne Wafers. Charleston is definitely the way to go. Your parents will adore it. I agree that springtime is best. Don't go during hurricane season! (Please note: The above are my personal opinion.)

Heather,

We live in Isle of Palms, which is just about 20 mins. from downtown Charleston. For up-to-date info on what's happening in the area check out:

Lots of local info at this site. Good luck!
