I saw some good rates for Budget, which allows you to pick up at ITO (Hilo) and return to KOA (Kona).
The car companies can really vary depending on your days. You can try Hertz, Alamo, Thrifty, Avis and Budget. I've used all of those, and if you try Orbitz first you can comparison shop.

I had the same situation last year but I started in KOA dropped off ITO, and Budget was the one that gave me the best rate, go to the Costco web and their they usually have discount rates as far as a good company to rent I don't think any one is better than the other. Make sure you check they do not charge a drop off fee. Hope this helps. Gina
