I have a conference in Albuquerque in mid -May. Planning to go to Santa Fe for a few days either before or after. Looking for some suggestions as to place(s) to go from there. We have been to both Santa Fe and Albuquerque before-been to Taos too. we have also been to Scottsdale and Sedona. We enjoy adventure, sightseeing, shopping, good eating, spa, etc..

Open to any ideas and willing to fly or drive somewhere just want it to make sense to go to from New Mexico.

I found the drive down to Las Cruces spectacular.

You might continue on to El Paso and visit Mexico.

The drive from Taos to Pagosa Springs and/or Durango, Colorado is nice. You can visit the Ghost Ranch near Abique (sp?). Both Pagosa and Durango have a lot of history and charm. The ride over the Continental drive is spectacular. From Durango you could opt to visit Silverton and Ouray and maybe even Telluride. Figure about a four hour drive from Albequerque to Pagosa Springs. Have fun.

I'll second the Durango, Silverton, Ouray area. The drive between Durango and Ouray on Hwy 550 is also known as the Million Dollar Highway. I would also add Mesa Verde National Park.

For a real adventure you might try Chaco Culture National Historical Park.

If you would enjoy unusual scenery with nothing to DO, drive down to White Sands, near Alamagordo. You can walk around the dunes in a sea of white, with the purple mountains in the distance--a spectacular sight! Just don't sunbathe topless like my MOTHER did!!!

Carlsbad Caverns is down that way, too, if that would interest you.

Ruidoso is a quaint little ski resort about a 2 hour drive northeast of White Sands, although not that much different from the Taos area.

You could head north into the Colorado Rockies as well; always lots to see and do there!

I haven't found El Paso to be a worthwhile destination, but maybe I just haven't spent enough time there.

From my perspective, traveling to the Mexican border towns are good for "reality travel" and that's about it.
