This thread goes a long way toward explaining how people can have such divergent opinions of the same place. Elisachristina seems to have spent all her time in Rehoboth Beach on the boardwalk, which is indeed tacky, dirty, and a big yuck. However, a couple of blocks away is another world of cute boutiques and trendy restaurants and well-dressed people; and there are stretches of beach far from the boardwalk that are clean and lovely. I like this thread because it gave her a chance to explain why she hates RB, an opinion that would otherwise be a mystery to me, a big fan of RB. Living and learning!

Has Rehoboth Beach gone that much downhill? I recall that when my family visited perhaps 8 or 9 years ago, we were most impressed with how clean the entire area was, including the board walk. If anything, it seemed almost sterile! There was obvious police presence, and we read an article about how someone was arrested for mearly uttering a light swear word under their breathe!

Myrna wrote "Some of the opinions why people don't like a place are stupid. Example: GoTravel hates Ohio because her father made them vacation there. Granted Ohio may not be the most exciting place, it does have good places as well as bad. Same with everything else. Sounds to me like Go has issues with her father NOT the places where he took them. There is therapy for that. Don't foist it upon everyone here."
The question from Lilley was "Where would you never travel to again and why?". My opinion was the entire state of Ohio. I never foisted my opinion on anyone I explained why I personally would not go back. I'm sick to death of the state! My father loves Ohio and we went at least four times a year while I was growing up. I never said the state was ugly or there were mean people or anything of the sort.
How on earth would you read into what I wrote that I had issues with my father?
If you read anything into what I wrote it would be that my father took the family on a lot of vacations while I was growing up.

Grand Lake, CO. There must be more to it than we saw. Spent the night in a B&B that was actually 2 rooms over a bar. The stable at the end of the main street generated a large fly population. Love the rest of CO

To my surprise, Montreal. Been there twice and had bad luck both times. First in the 1970s and given an unpleasant reception that I wrote off to the times. Visited again in September, 2002, during a massive heat wave & immediately before the 9/11 anniversary. Student riots prevented Israeli Benjamin Netanyahu from speaking at a college. The Canadian news was horrified at the infringement of his ability to speak, but it was ignored in the U.S. news when we crossed the border. Also, young beggars hung out at every corner -worse than any European city I've visited and made more unpleasant by the heat.
Of course, we had driven from Quebec City, utterly charming, and the mountains and seashore of Maine. Bad contrast of a big city afterwards. However, I think sometimes I just had bad luck or karma when visiting Montreal. Many acquaintances have visited Montreal and enjoyed it.

I tried to like St.Lucia but just could not. I do not recommend anyone going there, especially for a honeymoon. Poor, unsanitary island, bad roads, black volcanic beaches. There are much better places to spend your hard earned money.

In reply to the Rehoboth (not Rehobeth) Beach blasting:
Ocean City is a pit. Rehoboth is a welcome alternative. Upscale shops and restaurants, beautiful residential communities, and yes a small and clean boardwalk with some game stalls mostly targeting small children, which pleases the young families that own homes there. A very nice place to weekend or summer.

I can't say I've dislike destinations just crowds. I refuse now to ever vacation anywhere on any NE coast in summer. Too many frickin people. I don't know if I'd want to visit Disneyworld again either. Last time I was there - early 80s, no Epcot or theme parks attached and it was packed, can't imagine the nightmare now.

GoTravel, I don't associate any psychiatric issues w/you not liking Ohio, I just want to stick up for my homestate. I haven't spent much time in Columbus & never been to Cleveland but Cincinnati is a nice town to visit with lots to offer.
I agree with the link between New Orleans and San Francisco - my husband and I love them both. Too many people just see the exterior but both cities have so much to offer if you look beneath the surface! Are there any other cities anyone has visited that are similar to SF and NO? I'd love to visit if there are!
